Hi,

We have discovered on moving in to our apartment the unit above us have a  Concrete floor.Given it's an older 70s double brick building, these were designed to have generally some insulation provided through carpet. Unfortunately with this removed and no insulation whatsoever it means we hear everything amplified in our unit to the point of driving us mad - concrete is not the best material for absorbing sound!

We have no bylaws in our Bodycorporate that cover this issue - just the Model rules it seems and most of the material/discussions and topics we can find online regarding this relate to what is relevant in the state of NSW e.g. By-laws and NCAT, but we are based in VIC.

Are there any Unit owners out there from VIC that can provide us any general and or specific advice about what avenues are out there that we can pursue this through if mediation with the unit owners doesn't bring about a solution that both parties are happy to, to reduce the noise created by these floors...government agencies....lawyers...anything. We are well out of our depth here.

Would really appreciate any guidance that the Flatchat community can provide to us.

Many Thanks

🙂
