Fifty strata communities across the state have registered for the NSW Government’s program to remove combustible cladding from residential apartment buildings across the state, according to a Fair Trading news report .

Minister for Better Regulation Kevin Anderson encouraged all 214 eligible buildings to take advantage of the three year program providing a 10-year interest-free loan, expert assurance and professional project management services to oversee the remediation works.

“It’s great to see so many lot owners, strata communities and managers have already taken up the offer to be involved in our program, and I’d like to see that number quadruple in the coming weeks,” Mr Anderson said.

“We’re on track to commence assessment and project design for the first batch of 30 buildings by July this year, with the first cladding removed later this year.”

Strata communities who register to participate in the $139m program will have their building assessed and a remediation design prepared before they decide whether to commit to the remediation work.

“I encourage all those who are eligible to act now and register. Registering will start the process to have your building assessed and a design prepared – there is no obligation or commitment involved by registering.”

Mr Anderson said the NSW Government has launched new resources to help strata communities understand what’s involved in Project Remediate and the many benefits of joining.

“A guide to Project Remediate has been developed for strata communities, which explains each stage of the program and the benefits in greater detail,” Mr Anderson said.

“We’ve also launched a free course in collaboration with TAFE NSW to outline the remediation process for strata managers, strata committees and lot owners who join the program.”
