And for many of those who are new to the world of apartments and townhouses, there’s the added maze of regulations around defects, what qualifies and how do you claim (especiallly if your fellow neighbours know even less than you do).
The whole defects nightmare has only been exacerbated by the challenges presented by the discovery that 435 buildings in NSW are seriously at risk from flammable cladding.
With all that in mind, the Owners Corporation Network is hosting an “informative and interactive” seminar in Sydney next month where it will also introduce its Better Living in Strata (BLISS) program.
Sponsored by global building consultant specialists Sedgwick, “Simplifying Strata – Successfully Managing Building Defects & Major Projects” will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 9.00 to 11.30am at the Kirribilli Club, Milsons Point.
The session will be opened by Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, The Hon. Matt Kean who will outline recent regulatory changes which will benefit strata owners.
Bruce McKenzie, Sedgwick’s National Manager, Commercial Services & Major Projects (Australia), will walk owners through building defects identification and resolution and explain how to successfully manage major repairs and upgrade projects., as well as explaining aspects of the Defect Bond Scheme.
OCN, the only consumer body run by strata owners for strata owners, is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to helping, informing and advocating for the increasing number of people choosing to make strata schemes their homes.
