I have an apartment in large complex on gold Coast. Have been advised by onsite manager that pcboard needs replacing. Cost $890. Also advised separately that usually faulty air con causes this & generally blows out again once aircon reconnected.

Aircon now 10 years old. Checked my landlord insurance. Excess $100 but they advise aircon is building insurance. Building insurance excess $1k.

Second quote stated aircon burnt out. Cost to replace $5k. Waiting on other quotes. I would be happy to pay $1k excess to get new aircon.

Worried if I pay for pcboard replacement & it blows again I’ve wasted almost $1k. Two questions:is split system aircon a building insurance claim? How do I push for aircon replacement?

Is the air-conditioning specific to your apartment or part of common property?

Either way, worn-out air conditioning is generally not covered by insurance and if it’s causing your power board to blow, that may not be either.

I’d get another quote on that aircon unit for starters.
