      Hello,

My EC wrote a bylaw regarding the installation of hard flooring. In summary owners must submit plans including noise transfer information and there should be no noise transfer to adjoining units.

The unit above me applied for floorboards and provided information that the noise to adjacent apartments would be reduced by 60dB. Without advising me they approved the installation.

My understanding of the dB noise scale is every 3dB represents 1/2 the noise. So 60dB is 20 lots of half. (If it started off at 100 after 20 halves numerically it would be 0.00019!)

Now I can hear every step they make above. I believe I can even pinpoint where they are walking the noise is so clear.

After (many) months of asking my EC to look into the issue they have finally come back and said it is not their problem.

Is this fair? How should I tackle it? Any advise is appreciated.

      TIA!
